An Ode to Benítez: How do you know, when you know?

How do you know, when you know, how to cook an omelette? It is a question that can raise eyebrows, scrunch noses and help label yourself a nutter if you were to ever utter it to anyone. But it was one that was posed, rhetorically, on day one of Intro to Philosophy and one that…

    Russia, the Euros and Me

When you get rejected by a budget supermarket chain for a shelf-stacking job, you know it’s time to switch focus; that was my position 12 years ago after finishing journalism college, so I looked abroad for opportunities. I knew nothing of Russian culture or the football other than the UEFA Cup wins in 2005 and…

    Mind In Medway

“Sport brings people together” is a phrase we often hear and particularly with regards to football. It can be a welcome distraction from people’s lives, from anything that can be troubling, be it work, home life or a global pandemic. The first-ever all-Basque Copa del Rey Final

Simon Toye

As a child, my brother – a Preston fan – told me I should support my hometown club. So I did. I’m a Blackburn Rovers fan. Now there are many clubs in my life. I married a Man Utd fan; my brother-in-law is a Man City fan; my parents have season tickets at Accrington. So I have at one time or another attended games for all those clubs. I’m a football fan and of course an honorary Canadian!
